We’re taking a short “blog-cation” this week. We’ll be back next Thursday, August 26, National Women’s Equality Day, with an update on a powerful and important story!

Dear Folks:
This photo reminds me of a view on a road trip my mother and I took together years ago. It looks like the mountains in the West, perhaps Utah or Colorado although it could just as well be in the East. We went the long, cumbersome route over the top of Colorado… the less traveled route, petted a horse at the side of the road and tasted one of the 168 flavors of ice cream near Bear Lake. Mother painted some of the scenes. She was my feminist role model, an independent woman who was adored by everyone. I learned that I needed my name on the telephone bill even if I was a stay-at-home mom. She had to fork over the deposit for the telephone when she was divorsed even though she was the one who had written the check from her account each and every month! She taught painting until she died. And she won first prize at the Halloween party: She wore a large brimmed hat she made with some pink silk PJ’s from Victoria Secret and she introduced herself “I’m Victoria Secret!”
Warmly,
juliek
