Program funding and national leadership opportunities can be hard to come by for college students and campus staff, so I am pleased to announce that applications are now available for three great AAUW leadership programs that help fill those voids. This is your chance to make a difference on your campus!
1. Elect Her—Campus Women Win
Elect Her—Campus Women Win, a collaboration between AAUW and Running Start, encourages and trains young women to run for student government on their campuses. Any student, AAUW member, or campus faculty or staff member can apply on behalf of a campus to host the program in 2011.
Visit the Elect Her web page to access information about the program and the application. Applications are due September 15, and applicants will be notified whether or not they’ve been selected by September 30.
2. Student Advisory Council

2009-11 SAC Students at NCCWSL
Any qualified college student can apply to serve on the AAUW Student Advisory Council (SAC) for the 2010–11 academic year. The 10 selected SAC members will have the unique opportunity to advise a national women’s group, hone their leadership skills, and network with student leaders and distinguished women. Participants will also visit Washington, D.C. twice, once to serve as student leaders at the 2011 National Conference for College Women Student Leaders.
Visit the SAC page to access information about qualifications, instructions, and the application. Applications are due October 1, and applicants will be notified by October 8.
“Being a member of SAC has been such a great, positive, and inspirational experience. I loved meeting and now staying in contact with such motivated and talented women. … I thought the student conference, from the standpoint of a student leader, was awesome!” —Theresa M. Harrison, 2009–10 SAC member
3. Campus Action Projects
You can help break through barriers women face entering and staying in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Teams of student leaders and campus faculty can apply for up to $5,000 to design and implement effective programs that will attract women to STEM education and work in their communities. AAUW will fund 10 Campus Action Project (CAP) teams to implement their STEM projects during the spring semester. At the end of the semester, teams have the opportunity to share their experiences during the 2011 National Conference for College Women Student Leaders.
Last year, AAUW funded 12 CAP teams, including one at Rochester Institute of Technology. The RIT team held a series of workshops to improve the retention of women in engineering and focused on networking, developing a professional portfolio, and dressing for success. The workshops culminated in a networking event for students to practice their newly learned skills while meeting professional women in STEM fields.

Visit the CAP web page to download the application and instructions. Applications are due October 22. The chosen teams will be notified in early December.
I hope you will apply for these amazing opportunities and share them with your campus peers. Also, be sure to check out some of the other campus-based programs AAUW offers.
